Fleeing Conflict

The Kosovo War left deep scars on its people. Though the exact civilian death toll remains uncertain, it is estimated that at least 10,000 civilians were killed, and up to 3,000 are still missing. The conflict displaced over a million Kosovo Albanians, many of whom fled their homes to escape persecution.

Among those seeking refuge, thousands found a new home in the UK. The British government facilitated the evacuation of vulnerable Kosovars, resettling 4,346 men, women, and children from refugee camps across Europe. Of those, 2,400 arrived in the North West, with Manchester becoming a hub for refugees needing medical care.
